My name is Sherry Muntz and I am a photographer of landscape, nature and wildlife.
Early on in my childhood my dad taught me how to have love and be compassionate for wildlife and pets. When I was very young my dad bought animal encyclopedias and would have me sit with him as often as he could to teach me about animals from A to Z. I would pick a lettered book and point to the animal that I wanted to learn about that day. If there were any questions unanswered in that description in the encyclopedia, we would head to the library to read and study more on that animal. My mom, dad, and I watched numerous wildlife shows to like Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom, Jacques Cousteau, and others. Thus, my love and understanding of all animal life started. So, in the midst of learning about wildlife my entire life, I also grew up with pets. We always had many pets like cats, dogs, and rabbits to name a few. I learned to be very responsible with raising pets and learned a lot about different types of dog breeds, cat breeds, rabbits and more. This was very rewarding as I got older. In preteen years, my parents sent me to stay with either my dads brothers or his sister in the summertime. This way I could learn more about nature from his sister (my Aunt), and a lot about music from his one brother (my Uncle). I learned about life on the water, in a boat, from his other brother (my other Uncle). Even my youngest brother, who is 6 years older than me, had strong love for photography. His passion was more family photography. So, watching a lot of what he did and also what he did in his dark room was a learning experience for me too.
Learning about nature from my dads sister (my Aunt) was so much fun. We took her dogs out on hiking trails all the time and it was there where my strong passion for hiking/ long walks was born. We hiked through the canals and Niagara escarpment. I learned very quickly to respect our land. As we walked, my Aunt taught me how to envision the story of each moment I saw and what it could tell. She had me look through my hands, held up like a square box, and told me to find the story within the box each time I did this. I really learned the significance of what true beauty really was, and what it meant. I really did look forward to these precious moments with my Aunt. So, my passion for photography grew, and I dabbled into it here and there with film cameras while growing up but I just didn't follow that career path at that point.
From my dads one brother (my Uncle), I became very aware of how musically inclined our family was. Aside from teaching me some chords to play, my Uncle taught me how to listen and depict each instrument played in a musical piece. I was also taught vocal range and how to sing. My other Uncle was a man for the water, and I learned a lot from him and my dad about fishing and boats.
As I got even older, I started to learn more about myself, that I had a talent to draw and write poetry. In further learning about myself, I became a landscaper and designed flowerbeds and was awarded for my work. I stayed in that field for 15 years but had to leave the industry for personal reasons. I had no idea what field I wanted to do next. All I knew was I was becoming an artist of different forms. I just knew somehow that I wanted to grow as an artist. In 2018, I was using my phone to engage into my passion for photography. To my surprise I had many people tell me I was good at photography. Thus, it soon became a more serious thought as time went on. With my family’s support, and friends too, I made this my next adventure. I was gifted a camera from a friend and my children in 2019 and my photography took off. Through my life lessons from my family, I look at each picture I take, as that I am telling a story of what I see.
Ever since the camera was gifted to me, I have set many goals. One of my goals is to become a household name in photography and in turn, hopefully be picked up by Google and magazines as a featured photographer. I also hope my beauty and stories I tell through my lens will be enjoyed and be hung up on peoples walls. I am now putting faith in my photography to start selling all prints of photos that I have taken. One day I dream that this can be a successful big business adventure.
Help support me in my goals and purchase a photo to decorate your home with mother nature's hand in beauty and story telling from my perspective through my eyes and lens.
